Nikon D3100 Tips & Tricks

After series of delays, Phottix finally announced their battery grip for Nikon D3100 , the BG-D3100.  I can’t find any detail specs about the grip , only these :

This grip takes one or two EN-EL14 batteries. Effectively double your shooting time and make a small camera body easier to hold. This grip comes with a shutter-release button to make vertical shooting easy and comfortable . A short cable connects the battery grip to the Nikon D3100′s remote port to provide this functionality.

The specs and photos looks similar to earlier Pro/MeiKe battery grip. Check Pro battery grip image below .. pretty similar right?

The Phottix battery grip is in-stock and available for $55 at Phottix Store.

That is almost $10 more expensive than Pro/Meike version ! Hmm , and if both grips are identical , i think you should go for Pro/Meike battery grip ( available on Amazon ) instead.

Nikon doesn’t provide ‘official’ battery grip accesories for D3100 . In fact , Nikon never provide one for their entry-level DSLRs. Sad , but fortunately there are third-party vendors that manufacture battery grip for these cameras. One of them is Phottix , a Hongkong-based photography specialist. Phottix has manufactured the BP-D60 , battery grip for D40/D40X/D60 and surprisingly also works for D3000 (proof).

We’re currently expecting Phottix Battery grip for Nikon D3100 (BP-D3100) and Canon EOS 60D (BP-60D) by the end of this year!
